South Walton’s oldest beach community, Grayton Beach is a funky, eclectic town that is home to art galleries, quirky restaurants and lively bars. With so much personality, it’s no wonder that this beach neighborhood’s unofficial motto is “nice dogs, strange people.” Narrow, tree-lined streets provide pathways to classic Florida-style homes with wide front porches. While the historic Red Bar is being rebuilt, downtown Grayton Beach features shops and Chiringo restaurant. The town also features one of the most popular places for live music—Aj’s Grayton and those who enjoy local craft beer will want to visit the Grayton Beer Brew Pub. The Grayton Beach State Park is a gem along Scenic Highway 30A. With hiking trails and access to Western Lake, one of the area’s largest rare coastal dune lakes, Grayton Beach State Park is a nature lover’s dream destination.
Insider Tip: Grayton Beach State Park features a trail through the dunes that overlooks Western Lake. Not only are the vistas gorgeous, but it is a rare opportunity to walk under the scrub oaks of the dune and come out on top with spectacular views of the lake.
Before heading to the beach, know the surf conditions by taking note of the colored flag system.
Double red flags mean the water is closed for swimming due to powerful rip currents that can sweep even the strongest swimmers out to sea. Stay safe, check today’s conditions on our Beach Safety page.
